HASTEN, HASTEN

HASTEN, HASTEN

At times
life’s a jumble,

we spin, we spiral,
contemplating options
from the rolodex
in our heads,

lists form then fray,
cobwebs gather,
ideas crumble,
we grasp for purpose

yet confusion reigns,
then a need appears,
our purpose is clear,
impulse and intent
become one,

birds caring for their young
show us the way,
making plans in midair,
their purpose is clear,

Hasten! Hasten!

the babies have hatched,
their lives depend
on food and protection,
again and on end,
they cannot fend for themselves
in an ever harsh world
where the small and the weak
cannot speak or survive
by themselves,

may we hasten too,
for the small and the weak,
til they’re strong enough
to reach the safety they seek.
